Firefox is not registering that I have updated to the newest version. How can I make is recognize this?
Every time I use the browser it says that I need the same update. I do it and restart firefox and it still says I need the update. I look in the update history and it doesn't show that the update was ever done, but I have watched it update and give me the message that it updated at least 15 times. I am using a macbook pro.

I ssuggest you, Keeping backup your history and bookmarks (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles) you can uninstall it and install the lates version of Firefox browser.

There definitely is a newer version available.
If Firefox cannot successfully update, you might need to "trash" the application (not your personal data) and install again. However, I run Windows and do not know the finer points of OSX.
For now, I'll just provide these links:
- How to fix the Update Failed error message when updating Firefox (suggests manual install when update fails)
- Download site: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ (scroll down to your preferred language)
Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
- Firefox 38.0.1: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
- Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
- Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox.
