Start Page has inserted itself as my default browser

Suddenly Start Page has become my default browser when I open Firefox. Duck Duck Go has always been my default browser. I did not download Start Page. I don't want Start Page. My PC Win 11 is set to use Duck Duck go as the default browser. Why is this happening?

Note that the startpage and duckduckgo you are seeing in Firefox are as search engines as Firefox itself is the web browser. A search engine site is for example qwant.com, duckduckgo.com, google.com, startpage.com etc.

Mozilla the makers of the Firefox web browsers does not have a search engine of their own.

James, I understand the construct. My point is that I have never used nor have I downloaded nor do I have Start Page set as my default search engine. Up until today my search has and always has been Duck Duck Go. Duck Duck Go is set as my default search engine as well. Start Page suddenly showed up today. I didn't request it nor am I interested in learning to use a new search engine. So I cannot understand why, when I open FireFox that Start Page is now my home page. Start Page isn't shown on my APS list so I cannot delete it. What I need is to trouble shoot and to rid my PC of start Page and I have been unable to locate a method. Nor are there any explanations as to why Start Page would displace Duck Duck Go as my search engine without my instructions.

It can potentially happen from Mozilla side if there was an issue updating the search settings, in which case you'd be shown this banner: My default search engine changed after updating Firefox

If you check the search preferences in Settings: Manage Firefox search settings how does the list and the default option look like for you?
