Causing blue screen of death

I've been having an issue with the Blue Screen of Death and have narrowed it down to Firefox.

Before I delete and reinstall it and blitz all my bookmarks and stuff, is there anything I can try to cure the issue?

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Hi bouncdchk, does the screen refer to a particular issue, whether hard drive, RAM, graphics, etc.?

Fred mentioned Firefox's Safe Mode; that reduces stress on your graphics driver software.

Well initially we thought it was a problem with RAM because it didn't seem to have any particular cause. I was getting multiple different error problems. So I replaced the ram and was still getting the issue.

But, it was telling me something about Security something or another, then Page Faults, then some other drivers.. It was all over the place which is why we thought RAM initially.

So I guess the short answer is, it was giving different errors every time I got the BSOD.

And now to make things even more bizarre - after I started Firefox in safe mode and then restarted it in normal mode it hasn't crashed...

I'll keep ya' posted though. I'm sure it can't be that easy..

I guess the BSOD is a more or less related to O/S and hardware corruption not a Browser caused. Only coincidence that the Browser is affected by the corrupted files. How you narrowed it done to the Browser is fuzzy at best. If you started your system if Windows using "F8" and the boot option "safe mode with networking" this boot process if there is a error would show up ASAP when loading since this is the core process only. Only in this setup can you tell if there is a problem or not from the O/S, hardware or 3rd party trying to do something it's not permitted to do to cause the crash.
