Hi, I'm using Thunderbird version 140.0 on Windows 10 and trying to change the background of the message pane. I've tried:

  1. messagepanebox {
   background-color: #e6f3ff !important;

}

but it only changes the upper part and I can't find a way to target the whole flex container or the lower part. There is a forum response (titled Message preview pane background) that targets the message pane:

  1. messagePane {

background-image: url("file:///C:/path to image/image.jpg") !important;}

and that fills the message pane when its blank at startup but it disappears when selecting a message from the list.

I can add the background-color statement to :root in Developer Tools and that only works for the current selected message. How can I change the background of the entire Message Pane - the upper and lower part that contains the contents of the message - for each message that is selected? Thanks, David

I recently became the webmaster for our local American Legion post and built a website through Hostinger. That service also offered a cost-effective email solution for us and I've created a number of email accounts for our office positions and some individuals by name. At the level of service we have with Hostinger, our website/email account domain is not the same as the email servers.

That's ordinarily not a problem, since most modern email applications can either pull domain email hostnames from registration records or gives the user a manual process to enter the email hostnames directly (in our case an IMAP and SMTP hostname belonging to Hostinger).

I had no problem using the manual configuration that Thunderbird supports to set up my first American Legion email address. Email was received immediately and testing outgoing email worked fine. Adding a second American Legion email address seemed to go well - email messages came in immediately - but the outbound testing failed with error messages that the sending client was not recognized.

That sounded like Thunderbird was not trying to authenticate with a password on the SMTP outbound even though I had indicated in the manual setup that a password was required (same as I had in the first American Legion account setup).

I checked the Thunderbird settings to see what saved passwords were recorded in the Password Manager and sure enough their were three IMAP host passwords but only two SMTP host passwords (the missing SMTP host password was for the second American Legion account).

I completely deleted the second American Legion account and tried again - just in case I had accidentally indicated no password needed for SMTP the first time - and got the same result (IMAP host password created, but not SMTP). I then tried deleting both American Legion accounts and then adding them back with the second account being added first this time. At least the problem was consistent - the first account added had both an IMAP host password record and a SMTP host password created; the second account created had only its IMAP host password saved.

I couldn't find a menu item for adding a host password in the Save Passwords settings menu; manually removing the IMAP password to force the system to ask for the password again only ended up with the IMAP host password being added back into the TBird Password Manager.

The version Linux Mint reports for Thunderbird is 1:128.11.1esr+linuxmint1+xia. As far as I can tell the issue only comes up when Thunderbird cannot auto-detect the email servers on its own and it only has a problem when more than one email account has to be added for a manually configured email domain.

Is there a TBird menu item I'm missing that would let me add the SMTP host password for the second account manually? Failing that, is this a known issue that has already been fixed by Thunderbird and should be forthcoming after that version is released as an update by the Linux Mint team?

Hello

Is there a way to have the TAB function in an email message body with an option to produce a string of dots, instead of just a blank space? I would particularly love to have it line up subsequent rows on the accounting decimal point when the $ sign is used.

EG with a list of expenditures:

Home Depot .....................$50.00 Office Depot ...................$200.00 Starbucks...........................$37.50

Hope this makes sense! thanks Baz

When I downloaded the Thunderbird app to my new laptop and opened it, it already had a fortnight's worth of recent messages in the Inbox, plus many of my Sent messages. However, the remainder of the Inbox, dating back to 2010, was not there, neither were my address books. Why didn't a clean copy of the app download so I can import my Profiles? In addition, my old laptop uses POP incoming, but the new laptop seems to be configured to IMAP. Is this a problem, and if so, which should I choose for the new laptop?

firstly, i'd like to say this isn't really about settings, well it sort of is, it's about layouts, but there's no heading for that. sorry!

i've just gone from version 102 to version 128. for my use of Thunderbird, nothing much seems to have changed, except some things are now harder. (such is progress!) i would like to see the columns in message lists as proper columns, with headers you can click on. so only one line per message, as it used to be, would suit me just fine. that way i can compare things in the list, which i would say is really important. you can change the sort, and easily see how it effects things.

does anyone know if is there any way to achieve this? i can't see anything in Settings or View. thanks so much.

I have my sent mail going into my Inbox be default, so that I can see entire threads in context. It's set that way in Copies & Folders in each of my email accounts. However, I frequently find sent emails in the Sent Mail folder.

Can anyone offer an idea of why, and how to fix it?

Thanks Edwin

I have an 8 year old PC that I have been using Thunderbird on its entire life. I have 5 email accounts (from my own website if that matters) on it for personal use that have tons of information.

I bought a new computer and have not been able to move my old data to it. The old computer uses Windows 10 with Thunderbird Version 115.5.2 (32 bit). The new computer uses Windows 11 and I have tried several Thunderbird versions with the current one being 128.12 0esr (32 bit). I have added one of my email accounts to my new computer, but it contains none of my previous data (emails, contacts, directories, etc.), just a bare bones account that only receives new email.

I have repeatedly tried to move my entire source computer setup and data going through all of the described steps including copying the previous Thunderbird folder to a flash drive. I then follow the directions for copying and pasting my source data into the new computer's "roaming" section. It goes through all the steps including asking if I want to overwrite existing files. I have almost 14,000 files and as the process continues, I can see file names being added just as I would expect.

After everything is complete, when I restart Thunderbird, the only access I have is once again to the bare bones new email account. There is no data, nothing at all, from my source computer.

Help please, this has gotten beyond frustrating.

For >20 years I have used Thunderbird as my email reader for various email accounts on my mac laptop. Last night Thunderbird stopped downloading emails from my yale.edu account. I tried removing the yale account and reinstalling it unsuccessfully. See attachment. The Yale IT rep told me that Yale very recently added security features that are probably preventing Thunderbird from working with it. They told me to use the Outlook app. Is there anyway I can get Thunderbird to work with my yale.edu outlook email account?

Certificate errors have been an ongoing, several-times-a-day frustration for me and other users, with different ISPs, since approximately June 25. Is anyone working on this bug? Because it clearly is a bug: Not only I but several other users have reported that Thunderbird worked fine until that date, then stopped working fine. What changed, and can it be put back the way it was, or can we receive some explicit instructions on how to fix it for ourselves? It's making Thunderbird borderline unusable. Every time I try to send a message, I have to confirm a security exception, then send it again. Several times a day, when I try to fetch messages, I have to confirm security exceptions. The confirmations never seem to stick. This is some BS.

I suspect there is no fix and I (possibly) can restore from backups, but I would sure like to know what the issue is.

I tried retrieving an e-mail from the "folder" where I kept e-mails from 2023. The "index" one sees displayed for the folder had e-mails from Jan-Mar of 2023, but Thunderbird froze when I tried to open any of them. I tried the repair function (which I imagine is meant to rebuild the .msf file), but after than the index contained nothing from Jan-Mar. I opened both the .msf file and the no-extension file in Notepad, but I see nothing from those months.

Any clues/help would be appreciated.
