Thunderbird has worked fine for me for years on my Windows 10 Pro machine. The computer works perfectly otherwise--and has a large amount of RAM. But a few weeks ago, Thunderbird started freezing (stops responding) at some point while I'm writing a message.

What happens is that I'll start to write an e-mail message in Thunderbird, and at some random point (from a few seconds to a few minutes) it will stop adding what I'm typing, and soon the text that it was showing grays out. It will then say Thunderbird has stopped responding, and I have no other choice than to close Thunderbird. I have no way of saving or recovering the message I had been typing--very frustrating!

As a partial work-around, I found that if I click on "Save" every time I add a little more to the message I'm trying to write, then at least when I restart Thunderbird I can go to Drafts and recover the message (as it was the last time I clicked "Save").

Thunderbird still works fine for all other functions (reading received messages, etc.). It only has the stopping responding problem randomly when I'm trying to write a message. It can happen while I'm typing--or during a pause between writing sentences. And the timing of the problem is very random and variable (from almost immediate to a few minutes). I tried running Thunderbird in Safe mode, but the problem was the same...

I always keep up with Thunderbird updates. Currently, I'm using version 140.1.1esr.

Can you give me any help with a solution? This problem is maddening!

I recently got a new Windows based computer I used Thunderbird on my previous computer - no probs - so downloaded TB(141.0) and proceeded to set up to receive and send email from BTinternet server. The problem: my huge stash of messages are being downloaded afresh every time I go into TB. I read several discussions on same issue in this forum but I need help to try out the solutions: eg Solution 1 : delete popstate.dat file. But where do I find this???

   Solution 2:  Reset Main Inbox folder.  But how do I do this?

Please explain any suggestions in detailed steps please.

Thunderbird just started nesting multiple messages together in a single view in the inbox. I'm not sure how to explain this but it's new. I have missed multiple messages from people because of this new view. Is there a way to change it?

I'm not talking about seeing previous replies in a single message. I'm talking about how messages from a single individual are now appearing clustered together within the main inbox view.

I get an error message that says unable to write the email to the mailbox. make sure the file system allows you write privileges.I have used mozilla for quite sometime just not sure where to go from here.

I am having a issue with with Thunderbird Version 141.0 I am trying to send a file or attachment to Thunderbird to mail. Usually I would right click on the attachment and from the menu choose send to/mail recipient and Thunderbird would open up with Write to mail with the attachment and all I have to do is choose a recipient to mail it to. This was working a while ago but it has stopped . I can still send a attachment but I have to manually open thunderbird and select Write and put the person I am sending it to and select the attachment to send. Is there a fix for this. Thanks

For some reason, when I add a new event to one of my Thunderbird calendars, it shows up an hour later when I reopen Thunderbird.

For example: 1) create a new event at 9am and sync 2) close Thunderbird 3) reopen Thunderbird 4) event is at 10am

The native iOS calendar app still shows it at 9am, as does the web interface for the calendar provider (Hetzner webhosting). Once the times are shifted, they stay consistent, but the issue happens again if I try to edit the time an hour back.

I have verified that I am using the New York timezone everywhere.

I have an Outlook calendar in Thunderbird as well (using the Owl plugin), but it doesn't seem to have this issue.

Any thoughts? Thank you!

I have two computers and have thunderbird on each. All of a sudden I can't get into my email on one of the computers but can on the other. I believe they are set up the same Windows 11. I put in the password for the email address on webmail and it works there and on the other computer fine. What's wrong with this computer? I have deleted the email account I couldn't use on this computer and put it in again just as it is set up on the computer it works on and the pop up comes on enter a new password or retry. Please help, I have used thunderbird for years. Thanks

I am using Thunderbird for e-mail in both Windows and Linux. The version is 140.1.1esr in Windows and 115.8.0esr in Linux (I didn't check that now, but that's what it is supposed to be for Xubuntu 22.04).

Something like one month ago, I started having problems with both. Thunderbird wouldn't update inbox when I started it, except for some rare occasions. In Windows, it claims it connects to the server, but in Linux, it says it cannot.

All this time, I have had no issues using e-mail on my smart phone with different client program. Thus, this is not about the service but about the client program.

I am using IMAP and port 993 for incoming server and port 465 for outgoing server. Authentication is done using password and encryption is SSL/TLS.

I don't remember if I had installed some update right before this started.

What makes this especially weird to me is that the problem started in two different setups roughly the same time.

Recently, I noticed that a certain email I receive daily (from a Comics site) was finding its way into one of my local folders. While I do have a Message Filter that sends certain emails into that folder, this specific email isn't one of them and is supposed to appear in my Inbox. This morning I noticed that another of my daily emails appeared in that same folder. I went through the rules for this particular folder and the email address for the Comics email was not in there. (I have not looked for the other one yet.)

Can someone tell me why this is happening and how to stop it? Is it some kind of glitch in the software? I created filters from the messages that should put them back in my Inbox, but I'm really curious as to why this is happening. Started a week or two ago.

Periodically my BCC function suddenly quits working in Thunderbird. This morning it has totally failed and I cannot BCC to my own email in a single test email. Yesterday it was working great and has usually worked great. A couple of months ago I had this same failure and after some hours had passed, and it suddenly began working well again. This is the error message for today for all BCC: Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups: annfriday2021@outlook.com Your message wasn't delivered because the recipient's email provider rejected it. Update: I tested it just now and it will BCC to all of my TB mail groups except for one group which I have not had problems with in the past. However, an hour ago the BCC was not working for any of my TB mail groups, nor for a single BCC test email to myself. Thanks

The "From" column does not show the display names for mails received after last update despite setting/editing them in the address book. Right clicking the email address and adding it to address book happens but the small icon beside the address does not turn blue. It looks like the issue happens only at email addresses containing capital letters. In the attached picture the addressed with blue icon contain no capital letters.
