Chosen solution

Does either of these methods work for opening the Options page:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Options
    • Or if you moved Options to the toolbar, it's the gear icon
  • Tools menu > Options
    • If you do not normally display the menu bar, tap the Alt key to show it temporarily

If you get the same error both ways, then your installation of Firefox might be corrupted. For that, I suggest:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 40.0.3 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Any improvement with the toolbars?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

What don't you like about Firefox? Please be as specific as possible and make a numbered list so contributors can respond to each specific item on the list.

1. The options tool bar where i set MY preferences does not work - when attempting to go to it comes up as: The address isn't valid The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded.

Web addresses are usually written like http://www.example.com/
Make sure that you're using forward slashes (i.e. /).

Basically, \ backslashes aren't appropriate characters in Firefox. The 'convention' is forward slashes / for URL's and file locations on the hard drive and on rare occasions for certain preferences a double-forward slash is needed // for the 'local' drive / hard drive.

Please provide a screenshot of what you are calling your "Options tool bar".

See this support article. How do I create a screenshot of my problem? It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.

Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.

How do I access paint with window 10

Hi

Assuming you have a standard installation, Paint should be available in the start menu;

  • Start
  • All apps
  • Scroll down to W and open the folder named Windows Accessories
  • Paint should be listed there.
