Deleted accounts are preventing me from sending emails

Hello all,

Following some changes in our organization, we had to create new email addresses with new domain names. We have kept the old ones until now but we decided to erase some that had not received emails for a while.

Since we did that, we have encountered some problems regarding one of our computer. We can't send emails because Thunderbird is asking us for the passwords of the deleted email accounts. When we click on cancel, a window opens saying (roughly translated from French): "The email could not be sent. Authentification to the SMTP (outgoing server) failed. Please verify your password and the "Authentification method" in the "Account parameters | Outgoing server (SMTP) menu." The email was sent from a completely different email address than the one linked to the email account.

We deleted the accounts and cannot access this menu. Has it happened to anyone? What would be the solution to be able to send email again on that computer?

Many thanks for all your help, Please ask me if you need anymore information All the best

Thanks Michel for your answer. But unfortunately, the accounts have been deleted, both from our web host and from the Thunderbird interface. We can't access the account's settings and it should not exist anymore anywhere. That is why I do not understand how it can prevent us from sending emails. Moreover, it only does that on one of our computers. Mine works perfectly even though I did not erase the accounts. Do you have any idea how to fix that please?

Assuming that your new account is <New Account Abc> and when you send an email from this account, you got an error . You need to verify the smtp server of this <New Account Abc> to see if it's defined correctly and it does not refer to the <Old Deleted Account>

You need to verify the outgoing smtp server of your account to see if its defined correctly.

Click on Tools, Account Settings, then click on the target Account, at the very end you will see

Outgoing server (SMTP) , then click on Edit Smtp Server and verify the username

That situation usually happens when you have a calendar or addressbook from the account still active. This is common for deleted gmail accounts.

Many thanks for your answer. The default SMTP server was in fact the one used by one of the deleted account. Changing it solved the problem. Thank you again!
