please ask Thunderbird to stop making a tab on my taskbar every time I open an email
Please ask Thunderbird to stop making a tab on my taskbar every time I open an email. I have to close each one individually, and I never asked for these to be shown, and I don't need them shown. This is a tedious extra chore. I already have access to emails that I receive in my in box. It shows the history. I don't need any other index to them. Do you know how to stop making any other such tab or index? If not, please pass this on, and please don't say that you can't pass on this request. Someone decided to make these tabs show up on my screen and task bar, and to require me to close them by clicking on each little red X mark. I should be able to make contact with whoever makes these decisions and writes these programs, and to provide feedback and suggestions to them.

The following steps might be helpful: "Settings" > "General" > "Reading & Display" section > "Open messages in:" > Select "A new tab".
Please see the attached image.
I think I did this before, and this only shifts the tabs that I didn't ask for to tabs across my email inbox instead. Last time they switched to what I get now; tabs placed along the taskbar on bottom of the screen, or under the mozilla thunderbird tab there. Either way, they just accumulate, and it takes extra time to close them, and I can't close them all at once, apparently. I don't need those tabs in either location. Putting tabs on my email should be at the choice of the user. I don't see such a choice. Is there one? Where? Please advise; thanks.
If there is no such choice, this needs to be taken up with the programmers of thunderbird. Users should be able to communicate with them directly, or at least send feedback that they can see. Thanks for your consideration.
Hi Eric,
Yu5tiqX9og showed you where you make your choice. Did you check that setting in your system? Choose "an existing message window". If you have already done that, and new tabs keep getting opened, let us know. That would be a problem and not how Thunderbird is designed to work or usually works.
There are ways to report bugs and feature requests to the developers. I don't think that you want to do either yet because your issue is usually resolved just by checking a box.
Almost everyone on this forum is a user who volunteers time to help others. We do not have any special access to the developers.
OK, I checked that box. I did not know what "an existing message window" meant, since it does not say "do not keep open tabs up" or something like that. OK, thanks, we'll see if that works.
"There are ways to report bugs and feature requests to the developers." Good. Is it a secret only available to those to whom the volunteers might decide need to be shown the way? If not, it would be good to know. I won't report this problem if your suggestion has been handled.
I did not tell you because it would have taken time to look the pages up again and they were not needed in this case. There's no reason to be snarky.
