Hello, I'm a few weeks late signing back into my Mozilla account after deletion email called for the last day as June 10th. Considering I travel alot for work, I didn't sign back in until now. I've lost all of my recipe bookmarks. Is there anyway to recover them? Thanks Jay [email removed]@gmail.com

Hi Jay. I'm very sorry that your bookmarks were deleted because your Mozilla account was marked as inactive. I don't believe there is a way to recover your bookmarks from the Mozilla account. Once they are deleted, it is a permanent deletion. Only if they were saved locally on your computer can you recover them. Do you use Firefox on a computer or just your phone?

I'm actually surprised you didn't login to your account once in the last 2 years though. I will ask the developers if they can check if this new policy is working properly. As I was concerned some accounts could be flagged as inactive by mistake.

I did voice some concerns about this new policy a few months ago when it was first mentioned. While it does make sense to remove thousands of old and dead accounts to help recover space because keeping this kind of old data can slow down & weigh down the entire Mozilla Accounts system. And some of those accounts are spam bots & it's also good to get rid of those. But I wanted more time for regular users to get a chance to sign in or perhaps get some export options from their Mozilla Account so that they at least have a backup file of their bookmarks and passwords.

So I will be submitting your case as a example of someone who just missed the deletion deadline for their account. And perhaps that can cause the people who implemented this to extend the deletion of inactive account policy to a longer timeframe. Google invented the idea for accounts deletions after 2 yrs of inactivity. Maybe we can increase ours to be 3 yrs instead. Or copy Instagram and Facebook and allow deactivated accounts to be recovered with all their data still attached if they can login within a few months after being deactivated.
