Using Windows 10 x64 on my notebook, I installed the newest Firefox again although I had it installed before some time ago. After installation I am unable to set it up as the default browser as Firefox does not appear in the default apps for web browsers.

Also I am unable to go into the control center and open the classic default apps where I could set it up as default as mentioned in some solutions.

Hi, this is a Windows 10 issue but can try to help some what :

  • Repair System Registry and Files

Find the Dos Prompt or Powershell then Right Click and Run as Administrator then : Copy/Paste to Dos Window : DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth then hit Enter. Reboot when completed. Note : DISM goes up to Microsoft for new files.

After reboot check if can enter Firefox as Default Browser, you may have to reinstall again to force that.

Or update all programs and save anything in C:\users like pics, docs, ect and Windows Spring Update version 1803 out April 30th so back up stuff you want to save to another drive.

Use the Media Creation Tool to Update.

Short of the easy 1st one working and if not wanting to update to 1803 you would need to go to a Windows Forum for help with Default not working.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

If the instructions in the Make Firefox your default browser on Windows support article don’t help, try reinstalling Firefox. Also see this question.
