Why was I was redirected to another site when downloading an add-on and asked to donate to the developer?

I tried to download the Video Download Helper add-on and was redirected to a site and asked to contribute $10.00 to the developer through Paypal. Unfortunately it was not a request authorized by Firefox as add-ons have no charge or request to contribute to the developer.

Add-ons for Firefox are developed by independent developers who contribute a significant amount of time and effort to support their software.

In some cases, developers do ask for a donation to support their work as is the case with this add-on.
