Since Windows 10 updates, Firefox is unusable, starts up but won't access anything. Says, not responding, I can only X out of it and use another browser. Cannot access saved favorites or history etc. I have uninstalled Nvidia as suggested, but it seems to have made my computer worse. This is a quite new laptop that I am using, and I only use it for business or browsing and it is causing considerable problems. Any suggestions for a very tech unsavvy person?

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if that works.

  • Windows: hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox
  • Mac: hold down the Options key while starting Firefox

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

See:

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect.
