It drives me crazy that when Firefox updates, it requires me to enter my system password to install a mysterious, always unnamed add-on. I know it does this, and it's been going on for years, and I hate it. I never want to enter my system password to install something that is unknown. Since the add-on is never identified, well, it could be something beneficial, or it could be some new malicious package that snuck into the update process. How am I supposed to know? To me, it's unacceptable that Firefox keeps doing this. (Maybe it's MacOS's fault, but this doesn't happen with any other non-Apple software package. So it's Firefox's fault as far as I'm concerned.) I've been using Firefox for decades--since it was Netscape. I don't to use any other browser except for special cases. But I'm thinking of switching over to using Safari all of the time. Not that it would harms Firefox or anyone involved in developing it if I switched. But switching to Safari now would be a p.i.t.a., so it shows how much this install bug annoys me. (Years ago I submitted some kind of bug report in the bug system, but that's a pain. It's an opaque bug reporting system for anyone outside of the Firefox developer community.) Well,that's it. Lovin' Firefox except for this feature.

Hello again. Re my very recent post about a game on facebook functioning very slowly after the latest update, I now discover a worse problem with a word-game on a different site that I have also played for years on Firefox. Basically, after the new update, I find that I am no longer allowed to complete a move. Given the now 2 problematic situations I have, do I now with great reluctance have to abandon Firefox?

The new update refuse to load youtube, MeWe etc. It says "Cannot do this offline".

managed to get here so I'm not offline. How do I uninstall the latest update?

On my Macbook I have four accounts. I loaded Firefox via one of them. I do not want Firefox running or its 'background processes' in the other accounts as I do not use it there. If I switch account from the one in which I use Firefox to another does Firefox keep running processes?

i am a new user of firefox and selected it to securely access some websites. I followed the instructions to set firefox as my default browser but the search bar still says" search with google or enter address " and it shows google as the web browser , When i click the dropdown menu firefox is not an option . How do i set this so firefox is the browser ? i am using windows 11 .Thanks in advance.

I have recently found out that i couldn't add my Avast Antitrack to the system. On querying this with Avast they tell me that Firefox will no longer use this add on. I really want to know why this can no longer be used on Fire fox please.

Up until recently Bing Maps in the UK has the option to display Ordnance Suvey Maps and the function to measure distance.

Now, using Firefox, Bing Maps display a Beta version with very limited functionality. Using Microsoft Edge, Bing Maps have all the functionality that I expect.

Has something changed within Firefox that has caused this problem? Is there something that can be done to allow Bing Maps to work correctly from within Firefox?

Hi - After the latest Firefox update on my laptop around 2 days ago, I am now unable to play a game on facebook that i've been playing with no probs on Firefox for years. After this update, this game of all things (nothing else is) is slowing Firefox down. Now the page fully loads very slowly - as do the moves I try to make. Am I correct in thinking that there is basically no option to safely return to the previous version? If so, why at the very least was I not given the option not to update, while acknowledging I may be at greater risk if making such a choice. Looking forward to some help please! Thank you Steve

I've used Firefox for years and have been very happy with it. Recently, however, it will not open no matter what I do. I've refreshed it, removed and reinstalled it, but it still will not open. What could be the problem?

The name Drorinat appears in my Search engine options. It is Not removable. What is it, why is it there and why is it Not removable? I have searched the Internet but am unable to come up with any information about it. Thank you.

I am on MacOS and all of a sudden, my Firefox font is unreadable (to me) foreign text. All pages display the strange font. If I copy/paste, the text copied and pasted is English.

I have removed and re-installed Firefox. I removed the Firefox and Mozilla directories under ~/Library to remove files. But the strange display still happens. The image is attached.

I am experiencing a recurring issue with Firefox microphone permissions.

When I visit https://chatgpt.com and allow microphone access, it works for the current session. However, every time I open a new window or restart Firefox, I receive the same “Enable mic access” error from the site. I have to manually re-set the microphone permission through the lock icon each time.

Steps I have already tried:

Manually setting https://chatgpt.com to Allow in Firefox → Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions → Microphone.

Adding https://chatgpt.com as an exception in Cookies and Site Data (set to Allow).

Clearing site data and resetting permissions.

Confirming microphone access is enabled in Windows settings.

Running Firefox in Safe Mode with all extensions disabled.

Creating a fresh Firefox profile and testing again.

The issue persists across profiles and with no extensions enabled. Other sites seem to remember microphone permissions correctly, but chatgpt.com does not.

System details:

Firefox version: [insert your version, e.g., 128.0.2 (64-bit)]

Operating System: [e.g., Windows 11 Pro 23H2]

Reproducible: Always

Expected result: Once I set the microphone permission to Allow for chatgpt.com, Firefox should persist this setting across sessions.

Actual result: The permission resets, and I have to manually toggle it on each new session.

Please advise if this is a known bug or provide a fix.

I cannot get certain videos to play on Firefox. YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr all can play videos. Pretty much everything else doesn't work. Patreon, I get a black screen. On Twitch, I can only see the 'not currently streaming' screen, even if they're currently live, and VODs don't work. My computer specs are below. Operating system is Windows 10, I use Windows Defender for anti-virus. Everything works completely fine in other browsers. Here's everything I've tried to fix this:

• Updating Firefox
• Updating my computer
• Running in Incognito
• Running in troubleshooting mode
• Allowing autoplay
• Disabling hardware acceleration
• Disabling addons
• Clearing cache and data
• Enabling/disabling DRM content
• Installing Windows Media Pack

This has been going on for over a year now. I've gone through all of the above troubleshooting steps multiple times. The only progress I've made is getting YouTube from nonfunctional to working again.

Добрый день. Пару недель назад после очередного обновления браузера (использую ESR, на данный момент моя версия - 128.14.0esr (32-разрядный)) столкнулся с проблемой. Раньше, если я открывал через ссылку на любой странице новую вкладку, она сразу же грузилась через VPN-дополнение. Но сейчас любая ссылка при открытии новой вкладки будто бы открывает страницу по дефолту - и не грузит вообще ничего, может больше минуты пытаться загружать, а потом просто остановиться и повиснуть. Помогает только полное обновление страницы или скопировать ссылку в новую вкладку (можно в той же открывающейся и зависшей вкладке просто нажать "энтер" в адресной строке, тогда браузер всё обновит и загрузит как положено - через VPN). Проверил на нескольких VPN - везде такая фигня. При этом если заранее открыть новую вкладку и просто скопировать в неё ссылку - всё загрузится моментально. Однако это очень муторно делать, когда одновременно со страницы открывается по десять новых вкладок.

Это баг или какая-то новая поднастройка у вкладок, что они открываются по дефолтным настройкам?
