Firefox kills audio driver, causing computer to become silent

Note:Translation of questions from DEEPL Laptop system version: Windows 10, 21H2, 19044.6093. Firefox version: 141.0.3 (64-bit) The laptop has 16GB of RAM, an AMD 4600H processor, and a GTX 1650 graphics card.

When opening web pages in Firefox (this time it crashed after opening three regular pages), there is a chance it will freeze with a white screen and display a “not responding” pop-up window, while also causing the system audio driver to malfunction. Clicking the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner takes a long time to display the volume slider, but the slider cannot be moved, or adjusting the volume does not produce any sound. Forcing Firefox to close and reopening it also causes it to freeze. The only way to avoid the white screen and unresponsive state is for Firefox to automatically detect the crash and prompt whether to open a new page. The audio driver issue requires restarting the computer to resolve. So what is the underlying issue? How can I report this bug to the official team for analysis and resolution? If it's difficult to resolve, I'll consider switching to the ESR version of Firefox.

(Annoying past experience: This situation has occurred several times before when using Firefox. At that time, I had 2-3 web pages with videos open, mainly video websites, and the speaker icon was directly crossed out with an X, causing the computer desktop to crash as well. The computer became extremely laggy, and the Task Manager and security options were difficult to open. After restarting the computer, Firefox automatically reopened the previously unclosed page, causing the desktop to crash immediately upon startup, entering a loop. It seemed that even Windows Safe Mode didn't work, and a forced upgrade to a major Windows version was required to resolve the issue, followed by reinstalling a bunch of software.)

I found a problem with McAfee Webadvisor 13 Aug 2025 release. It causes flickering in the upper right part of the screen. Disabling it in Extensions fixes the problem. Removing it and reinstalling causes the problem to reoccur. This is new, had no problems yesterday but today all four of my family's computers have this problem. I will report the problem to McAfee and give an update if I get a response.

There is a scam browser extension add-on here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/19226846/ The OKX wallet shown here is a scam. I work at the original company. For some reason, Firefox refuses to list the real extension from OKX, but keeps letting scam extensions pop up. We have been trying to connect with someone at Firefox, but none of our business emails or customer support requests have been answered. We are frustrated and confused. 1. Real apps are not allowed. 2. Fake scam apps are listed 3 times a month. 3. No clear route of communication.

Hello,

I've been having this problem recently on Windows 11 with Firefox, where switching my input language to japanese (ALT + SHIFT keys) causes the browser to crash immediately. This happens about half to one third of the times I do it. It didn't happen before and I'm rather confused.

Searching on Google brought up a few similar experiences, such as this one, but the suggested fix (switching intl.tsf.enable to false on the about:config page) didn't work for me.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you very much in advance 😊

All of a sudden this evening my title bar is shimmying left to right. If I try to pull down the Bookmarks/History/Downloads box it shimmies, too. I have no idea what caused this to happen and no idea how to fix it. I looked in the Task Manager but I'm not sure anything odd is in there. I ran a scan with McAfee but it didn't pick up anything. I am hoping someone out there can help me with this. I got rid of cache and history. Maybe it's a cookie issue and I should get rid of all of those, too?

Roughly every 2 weeks I backup important files to a external hard drive.

One of the things I always backup is my Firefox profile. I have been doing this for years without any problems.

I 7zip my profile and copy it to the hard drive.

I tried to do this yesterday (July 25 2025), and was getting access denied messages for files in the profile. So I tried to simply copy the profile. Same thing access denied.

I cleared the history, used wise disk cleaner, rebooted my machine and tried again. Same thing access denied when trying to backup or copy the profile.

I am assuming that this is happening since 141 because I updated Firefox since the last time I backed up my profile, and never had a problem previously.

Could anyone have an idea what the problem is? Thank you for your time.

I recently bought a new computer, and I'm trying to get everything transferred from my laptop to it. I have a Firefox account, am signed in on both devices, sync is turned on, and passwords are set to sync. I don't know how, but all of my passwords are on my new computer, but not on my laptop and I can't figure out how to get them back. Maybe I messed something up trying to get all of my tabs transferred? It wouldn't be a problem if I was completely done with my laptop, but I'm still going back and forth between the two.

Also, it seems that the passwords on my new computer aren't the most up to date, as I'm signed in to several websites on my laptop, that won't accept the passwords on my new computer.

I would really appreciate any help getting this all straightened out.

I was trying to setup 2FA on my Mozilla account on Firefox pc browser (140 version). The process completes without issues with Aegis authenticator app, I download the backup codes and I even get the email confirming the recovery phone number was added. On the Mozilla accounts page 2FA turns to enabled. (I'm on Windows11 with latest Firefox browser version)

However after a simple refresh, it turns back to disabled. I repeated the process and same thing happens. Same even on Firefox Android. What could be the issue here?

Hello, I’m having trouble getting Firefox to work properly on my computer. During installation, the setup process becomes very slow, and once I manage to install it, Firefox hangs or becomes unresponsive within a few seconds after launching.

My system details:

Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit

What I’ve tried so far:

Reinstalling Firefox Running in Safe Mode Clearing profile data Disabling antivirus temporarily

None of these steps solved the problem. There are no specific error messages — the browser just freezes, and I have to close it via Task Manager.
