Everytime Firefox offers an automatic update, it failes in updating correctly, because it says that I have more than one Firefox (which is not the case) and/or I must first close Firefox, although it is not open. There is no way out of this problem other than deleting everything that might be related to Firefox, restarting the computer and before the failure loop starts again quickly de-install Firefox. Is there a way out, or if not, can I cancel the automatic update possibility somewhere?

Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder: 

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)

Tools > Options > Advanced : Update: When updates are found: "Ask me what I want to do"

The next link will lead you to a very helpful website with all kind of answers when one has problems with Firefox updates: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update#Checking_for_updates I'll study that and try to apply the suggestions, once I have problems again. Also , I changed the settings in Firefox by Tools, Options, Update, from not automatically install updates to first ask me. Then I know there is an update and then I will go to the Forefox website en install from there the newest version in top of the old one. Hopefully this ideas will also be helpful for others?!
