Moving from the ESR version to the "normal" one without loosing settings and bookmarks
Hi,
I have a Mac with Sonoma. Somehow a while ago I ended up with Firefox ESR, which I was told that will not be supported after September.
I am a non-technical user. While I do have Safari and Chrome, I would prefer to continue using Firefox.
Could you please let me know the steps to execute to somehow switch from the ESR version to the current normal version without loosing settings, bookmarks or ending up with problems? Thanks in advance.

TechHorse, I followed the Link for Recover user data and I think that Firefox2 (the 131 version) picked up the old profile. The instructions didn't tell me that I have to close Firefox2 before the changes are applied and initially I thought that the Firefox2 didn't pick-up the old profile.
After I closed Firefox2, I am seeing my bookmarks, the exceptions for cookie deletions, the add-ons and the tabs I had opened in Firefox opened in Firefox2.
I wanted to open Firefox (ESR) and I got a warning to not do it as it is an older version and could mess up the bookmarks, so I didn't do it. With your very generous help and patience it seems that it might have happened.
Is there anything else I should check or the above is conclusive? I am not sure what to do next. Would it be enough to just remove the icon for Firefox ESR from the dock? I would be afraid to de-install because the Library/Application Support shows the two Firefox folders and Firefox 2 shows zero bytes, something that I do not understand. I attached a screen capture for that.
I really appreciate that you didn't give up on me. I am afraid to believe that it might be done.

Sue, this is probably the easiest first method to try, to set the newly installed standard Firefox to use the data from the original ESR profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recover-user-data-missing-after-firefox-update

I wanted to come back to thank you one more time, TechHorse. The up-to-date (non ESR) version is now my default and I am ignoring whatever might be there for the ESR. I do not need more problems than what I had, as I saw that nobody else but you provided useful help when in trouble. Using a product like Firefox which is complex from a technical perspective with zero support from those who offer it is a risky proposition.
I hope that it will keep working.

Sue, no problem, and glad that you were able to get things working to a satisfactory level.
