Firefox not using "remember me" if "show your windows and tabs from last time" not checked

mkkyah

I'm trying to open Firefox from windows command line to an url that allready has passwords saved and "remember me" checked. It works perfectly and logs me automatically in, when I try it with preferences/general/"show your windows and tabs from last time" checked . (This way, closing firefox adds always an additional tab to previous session and keeps growing.) But I want Firefox open only one tab (my chosen url only) everytime, not remeber previous multiple tabs. If I choose "show blank page" or "show home page" options to start firefox and forward later to my url it's not using remember me. It lands on the login page. I need to open different urls with every command, so I didn't tried to set my urls as homepage.

If you start Firefox normally, "show your windows and tabs from last time" will load your last session.

If you start Firefox using a shortcut, the browser should open only to that link.

A detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you:

  • create an "Allow" exception to keep specific cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed
  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: Exceptions

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an "Allow" exception you may want to keep

I'm starting Firefox from a pos software; so there is an input box for program exe and one for url in the settings. So I will try to change it to a shortcut address.

Dear cor-el I have already checked all of that steps. Coockies are allowed and, exceptions are kept. And it's already working when "show your windows and tabs from last time" checked. All I want is to open a clean, one tab window which remembers me. This firefox is used in a pos system and no user will close all that repeatedly growing tabs in the background.

If you use "show your windows and tabs from last time" then sessionstore stores the cookie data of all open tabs. If it works in that case, but not when sessionstore isn't restoring automatically then there might be a problem with the cookie setting like no allow exception or the website uses session cookies. This can also go wrong when you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear cookies.

Do you have a cookie "Allow" exception for these websites?

Yes, I have allowed an exception for the page. It's actually unifi hotspot manager on localhost. It makes sense, that maybe my exception not working but restore tabs cookies are working.
