How do I get my mailboxes and emails from Mac Mail into Thunderbird

When I try to import my mail the Thunderbird import dialogue box does not see any mail to import. I exported one mailbox using the mailbox export tabs in mac mail but don't know how to import this.

There is an existing and continuing thread on this topic here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1200699 I suggest you have a look there, but basically you need to export the mail with the mac mail export and import wth the import export tools

I never heard back from the guy about if the tools imported his mbox file or not. So I am still assuming and I hate doing that. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/

I download the (experimental) add-on but cannot get it to open. The add-ons work if i get from tools>add-ons , searched for it there but can't find it.

Have tried to remove box file extension but it pops back.
