Thanks but response did not solve problem.

  • Not a new device or location - other gmail accounts are loaded into Thunderbird from same device and work fine.
  • Security protocols same - see above.
  • Tried link to no positive affect.

It is usually gmails bogus Less Secure Apps. Did you read that section of the linked page?
