while trying to install firefox I get prompted to first close firefox before install can continue. what do I do????

I was having problems with firefox so I did a program uninstall. Then I tried to reinstall firefox but I kept getting prompted to first close firefox. I made sure all programs were closed and still no luck. I suspect that internet explorer is preventing me from installing firefox. What can I do to bypass internet explorer because I prefer to work through firefox?

Do you have the firefox preloader program? If so, right click the icon and left click on "unload firefox."
