firefox is being detected as a trojan

more options

I use AVG 2011. Just upgraded to it. Upon upgrading, decided to do a full computer scan. It found only 2 hits:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe (528)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe (528):\memory_00010000

Its being listed as a Trojan horse agent_r.XJ The :\memory_ .... one is inaccessible, but the firefox.exe one itself is listed as cleaned/healed. I have run this scan after going into safe mode, and nothing pops up at all. I downloaded firefox from: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.6.13&os=win&lang=en-US

I have also received a similar effect on Internet Explorer. I initially decided to uninstall Firefox and reinstall fresh from downloading from the website (Uninstalled -> Scan -> Found Clean -> Used IE to Re-download).

On the IE portion, after I installed Firefox, I ran my scan again. Both Firefox and IE (as well as the respective :\memory... thing) popped up as a Trojan horse agent_r.XJ

Cleared them out, and now I'm here. Currently lists firefox as a trojan still, so I'm wondering if it's actually just AVG messing up, or if my computer is currently compromised.

Probably a false positive from AVG. You could visit the AVG support forum to see what other Firefox users are coming up with, or wait for today's update from AVG to see if they fixed that issue.

Considering that Firefox 3.6.13 was released over two months ago, and you downloaded a new Firefox setup package directly from Mozilla; when you get exactly the same report from AVG with both installations (which is updated daily), the finger points toward an AVG false positive.
