That should never happen as did you do a custom install, say installed it on the desktop?
Over the years I have seen threads here and at mozillaZine where people who installed Firefox in their Desktop on Windows and then later uninstalled Firefox and all of the desktop contents was removed also.

NO custom install-just clicked on the reminder that popped up to update Firefox.. How do I get my desktop files back?
