I'm having troubles with Thunderbird version 140.6.0esr(64-bits) on Ubuntu 25.10 (fully updated). It's installed as a snap.

The first problem is that I have a selected mail with an attachment, but nowhere in the mail itself I can see or find or open or download that attachment.

The second problem is that for the inbox and mail body I can't scroll. There are no scrollbars, and the mouse-wheel doesn't work.

Is it a problem with snap? With Ubuntu? Or with Thunderbird itself? Could if be a configuration problem (I've tried quite a lot of things already)?

Can any one help please?

I help my brother inlaw with his computer, he has diminished mental capabilities when operating his PC. He has deleted his email address and its associated folders from Thunderbird and I cannot restore them for him. This is the only email address he has and does not remember the original password that was used to add the email address to Thunderbird, some years ago.

Regular Thunderbird user. Lester, Auckland N.Z.

Recently, I needed to do a major upgrade to Fedora 43 so I did a full backup first for safety. After the upgrade, I needed to install Thunderbird to recover access to my email. For the first time in over 20 years, I had to re-enter the data for my various email accounts and now I find that my address book is gone. How can I locate the proper files in my backup and restore them while Thunderbird isn't running?

I'm dealing with a properly updated 'bird: 140.5.0 (32-bit) running on an equally updated Windows 10 desktop. First thing this morning, out of nowhere, I started getting an "unable to write the email to the mailbox..." message when sending, thus I could send but not save. And then I realized I wasn't receiving either, on all three accounts in my Thunderbird. I stopped everything and focused on trying to fix this. It's been an all-day, losing effort. So far.

I tried the various quick checks and fixes recommended here and there: I'm running the program as an administrator. I restarted the program. I rebooted the computer. I think I have enough disk space, but to be sure I deleted some bloat from possibly overly large files. I compacted, even though the program is configured to do that regularly. I temporarily disabled my antivirus program. I went into my webmail and deleted all messages that have arrived since my Thunderbird stopped receiving, in case one of them was corrupted. And probably some other attempts as well. Nothing has helped.

And now a second, even worse issue has fallen from the sky. Thunderbird opens. The folder list is where it always has been. The number of unopened messages in each folder is there in boldface, as always, but...the folders are all blank and I get the dreaded popup: "unable to open the summary file...." Have I lost my years' worth of carefully curated emails?

I've tried folder repair. I've deleted parent.lock. Etc. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

I will be super-grateful for any wisdom sent my way.

Oy! If it isn't one thing, it's another:

Before this latest update (earlier this week), when I right-clicked on my Spam folder (int left column of the screen), the drop-down box would open. Then when I left-clicked "Empty Spam", all of the Spam folder messages were *permanently deleted.*

But now? They go into Trash and I cannot figure out a way to change this behavior. I should not have to select all the spam messages and then click <Ctrl> to get rid of them, it should happen when I click "Empty Spam."

How do I solve this/is there anybody there who can fix this?

I have recently installed version 146.0.1 on a new computer, was using 115.10 before. I regularly put about 50 emails in my outbox using the mail merge add on and then send them in one go. I have done this very successfully for a long time using my Fastmail email account. Now after sending about 10 of the emails, Thunderbird hangs and I have to restart it to send the next 10. If I send them via my Gmail account it still works fine. I am trying to understand if this is a Fastmail or Thunderbird issue. I would have liked to try it on my new computer but with version 115.10 but cannot do this as it seems that the Profile is different.

Any advice gratefully received.

Thanks Bob

After the 146.0.1 update (installed on December 10th, 2025, OS: Windows 11 25H2), when Thunderbird tries syncing a college email account (email format: first.last@schoolname.schoolabbreviation.edu) I get the following error message popup as a Windows notification: "Server outlook.office365.com responded with an error." When clicking on the error message, it doesn't provide any additional information (no error code or detailed message of what's going on).

Below is the troubleshooting steps I have already tried.

  • Restarted computer
  • Repaired Thunderbird installation
  • Tested connection to server under Account Settings>Server Settings. Shows successful connection.
  • Cleared Thunderbird startup cache

Since the account still seems to send and receive emails just fine, I haven't tried removing/readding the account or doing an uninstall/reinstall of Thunderbird.

Any suggestions on where I can find details of what is causing this error and how to fix it? If I need to provide more troubleshooting information, please let me know.

When I recieve email with inline images all are shown as attachment at the end. These are personal photos usually send in an email generated on a cell phone, but the same happens when coming from a PC running t-bird as well. All are Win 11 and the O/S and TBird are all updated regularly. Changing "View Messaage Body As " HTML original, HTML simple, or TEXT, only changes the size of the placeholder. The configuation is pretty much as provided by the setup program. I assume this is a simple setup step I am missing as it is the same on two PCs that are WIN 11 and one that is UBUNTU.

I am on TB 146.0.1.

I recently noticed that some items seemed to be missing from global search results so I ventured to rebuild the GLODA index.

The first few times, it seemed to get stuck on specific IMAP sent folders. I repaired the folders and eventually, the index completed to full success. It is about 2.5 GB.

It still doesn't seem like some searches are working correctly, but maybe there is an explanation. Most of my email other than IMAP sent emails is stored in my Local Archives.

Using the term "klinghardt" for example, global search shows only results from 2025, a total of 992 items, and does shows some from both IMAP and Local Archives. From Local Archives, it shows 255 items in the "From Visitors 2016" folder. It does not go back prior to 2025.

However, there are many earlier emails in that folder before 2025 with the same term.

Using the term "klinghardt education" does show messages back to 2017 and a total of 524 of them in the "From Visitors 2016" folder. Why would using just "klinghardt" show less than "klinghardt education"?

The "From Visitors 2016" folder has almost 140K messages from about 10 years.

If I go "From Visitors 2016" folder and do Search Messages with the same "klinghardt" term on subject alone, I get 982 returned messages that go back to 2015. I believe this is not using GLODA but am not certain.

If I go to Quick Filter on Sender, Recipients, Subject, I get 1251 items going back to 2015.

If I see messages over many years with Search Messages and Quick Filter, why do I only see messages from 2025 when I use the global search?

To make things a bit more complex, there is also a "From Visitors" folder in Local Archives that has hundreds more with terms from 2011-2015 that don't seem to show up in the global search results at all with either of the above. If I use "klinghardt academy" though, some results do come back from the "From Visitors" folder. Total of 32K messages in the From Visitors folder.

I have already tried many options from the documentation and suggested by ChatGPT but am hesitant to do anything that could not be reversible.

At this point, I am unclear on what here is a problem vs. an explainable behavior.

I would be grateful or any thoughts or next steps you might suggest.

Thank you and happy holidays, :) Scott

Why has Rogers taken over my email.

I can still access my email on the web at the yahoo.ca website, but I want it back in Thunderbird as well.

Hi, I am transitioning from Mac, after 30+ years, to Linux. Part of this is making sure that certain heavily used applications can be relied-upon in Linux. A couple days ago I successfully installed Thunderbird and moved my Profiles into the Linux version of Thunderbird. (This really needs better guidance from Mozilla! What I found on the subject was definitely NOT accurate!! Instructions should NOT be identical for all platforms). In a cautious abundance of excess, I repeated the same transfer onto a second Linux machine. Now I have Thunderbird running on my desktop Mac Mini AND on two separate Linux machines. Eventually, it will be removed from the Mac. What I never expected was that every time I received, deleted, read, etc., email, the same action would occur on the other two machines, regardless of on which machine I made changes. All accounts are set up as POP accounts, BTW. How is this possible? are the three instances of Thunderbird aware of each other on my local network? Or, is there some sort of updating processing happening from my ISP? Regardless, I am thrilled that I can potentially use Thunderbird simultaneously on different machines, but... Down Side: Apparently, not everything is mirrored. I just moved a newly received email from the inbox to a local folder inside Thunderbird. That action was NOT copied on the other two machines. Is there anything I can do to keep ALL the folders in sync? Thanks very much.

1. I am getting Mozilla Thunderbird ESR notices pop up when I log on to my PC (W11). I checked my Thunderbird version and I have 146.0.1 and I am on the release channel so why am I getting these notices ? 2. Recently I noticed that when I try to move e-mail messages to a specific folder, I right click on the message and get the prompt Move To and then Recent Destinations where the problem exists. The list of Recent Destinations used to be in alphabetical order and now it is sorted by most recent destination time. This slows me down considerably. Please revert. Thanks !!
