software update problems

Everytime I ever get the box that pops up telling me that a software update is available, I hit update and nothing ever happens. The box sits there without even slightly moving and never downloads the update. I'll end up being done using my computer and shut it down with completely forgetting there was an update that was "strongly recommended."

This has been an issue for months. My computer is fully up to date with its software. So this shouldn't be an issue. Perhaps firefox is no longer a super power on the internet?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop

Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
