Downloaded the latest version of Firefox, Reinstalled the Silverlight application, and deleted the cache/ cookies/ browsing history and still no video -- Brings up the netflix comptability page. IE did work. Then contacted Netflix tech support and they recommended trying the beta version of Firefox (Firefox 15). Uninstalled 14 and reinstalled 15, and still no video on the site.

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Created a new profile and no netflix. The browser that worked with silverlight was IE. In firefox, I encountered the netflix requirements page over and over again without any particular explaination why netflix was not compatible with firefox 14 or 15 beta. This is the Netflix "Complete Systems Requirements page".

i called netflix yesterday, and was told that they are getting a lot of calls saying FF doesn't play netflix. They claimed it was a problem on Mac where the option to run FF in 32-bit mode is not respected (by FF) ... but it sounds like you're on Windows. Since Silverlight was not updated and FF was, and since the problem is being reported by folks on all platforms, I hope the Firefox devs fix this quickly. Last few updates have been so broken I'm just about ready, very regretfully and sadly, to move to Safari or Chrome.

based on something i read in another discussion on this forum, I tried modifying the user agent that Firefox reports. I installed User Agent Switcher extension and modified the "FF 14.0.1" part to say "FF 13.0.1" ... AND NETFLIX WORKS FINE. Clearly the problem has nothing to do with 32 bits or 64 bits or the silverlight plug-in, it is Netflix's browser test that does not see FF 14.x as being compatible. But it is!

Hey, Firefox. Would it be alright if I didn't need a degree in computer science to make very popular websites work?

The last version to which I was forcefully upgraded was incompatible with Netflix (widely discussed problems with v 14.8 or whatever it was), and now the new v 15.0 continues to fail. That's two strikes. I am very nearly done with FF forever.

The delightful new problem: Netflix prompts me to install silverlight. I install silverlight. I return to Netflix. Netflix prompts me to install silverlight. I install silverlight. etc...

Now I'm really happy for all those above me who have had luck reversing the polarity on their motherboards. But why don't you just work really hard and create a web browser that allows average technologically illiterate folks to check their emails and watch movies?

Thanks!

After reading through these posts I've realized that there a few different issues and each of us will probably have to try "this and that."

Basic problem that everyone else was having. Can't stream Netflix through any version of Firefox (but CAN in Safari!). Firefox keeps prompting the update of Silverlight. Well.....it IS updated. So wtf?!

One of the posts above mentions the User Agent Switcher extension. I figured "what the hell" and gave it a try. What this led to was the realization that Firefox DISABLED the Silverlight extension at some point (probably when during the whole Java debacle). I only noticed this after installing the new extension/plugin...seeing the list of ALL plugins. Obviously enabled Silverlight 5.0xx and was good to go.

Thank you Firefox community!

Good luck.

o0JLC0o, If you (or anyone else reading) is on a Mac computer, be aware that Mozilla has automatically disabled old Silverlight versions. You can view the block information at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p129 Even after updating to Silverlight 5.1 you have to open the Firefox Tools menu, go the Add-ons manager Plugins panel and enable the Silverlight plugin, as mentioned here:
