location bar doesn't get web addresses

location bar doesn't seem to get or understand web addresses. Anything I type, is directed to google as a google search. I can then use links in search results. Links from my bookmarks also work. What I cannot do is type a new url and go directly to it. Moreover, I can no longer see the url I've reached: it doesn't get printed in the location bar.

It should be quite an important function of the browser, where is the old good awesome location bar ?
