Folk with that sort of complaint often have a VPN that Google does not like. Do you? (It is often a component of third party antivirus programs these days.)

What is your provider provider details (server port and connection security) antivirus and version of Thunderbird?

Thank you Matt. No, I do not use a VPN. But since I posted the question, Thunderbird has updated automatically anyway and the matter seems to have resolved itself. Regards, Barney
