Thunderbird changes time stamp of previously saved attachments

Last week I saved the attachments of an email to a new folder in Documents. Today I received a new email with attachments. I saved these attachments to the same folder. To my surprise the old files (from last week) got a new timestamp. The date is today and the time is a couple of minutes after midnight. Any idea how this is possible? PS. I'm using Thunderbird on an Ubuntu machine.

No idea. But if the new time stamp is from when Thunderbird was not running, it could not have been involved.

I just tried to save attachments from two separate emails to a folder (on Ubuntu) several minutes apart, and the Created and Modified time stamps did not change. Might you be looking at the Accessed time?

No, all the times (created, modified and accessed have changed. I added a screen dump of the folder. As you can see all dates are the same. I saved the attachments at 16.11 (4:00 PM :-) . I'm not sure but I think that the times of the 'old' files ( just after midnight) are correct but the dates have all changed.
