Unable to log into Google accounts from Firefox
Hello, Sorry to disturb but its been two days and I am unable to access my Google accounts (work and private) through Firefox in anyway. I have done all the basic fixes I can think of but with no success. I have deleted caches, checked plug ins, rebooted Firefox went through the trouble shooting mode, followed advice in the community forum, tried logging in from Google linked accounts. Spoke to our internal IT support at work but nothing has solved the issue as yet, spoke to Google support.
My assumption is that it has to be the browser as I am able to log into google with another browser but Firefox is my preferred browser and would like to use it again as such.
Please advise.
Thank you Cait

We have resolved an issue with Google auth prompting users to ‘clear cookies and site data’ when logging in. A fix has been published, via Firefox remote settings that does not require a Firefox upgrade. Users will receive the update over the next 6hrs, if you would like to update immediately simply restart Firefox.
Note: The issue was related to the enablement of CHIPS in Fx131, this feature has been temporarily disabled while we resolve the issues. Users who have disabled 'Allow Firefox to install and run studies' in Privacy & Security settings will need to enable to receive the update.

Hi Cait, can you tell us what happens on the screen after you enter your username and password then try to login? Does the page become blank and never change? Does something appear stuck in the lower left corner of the screen that looks like a web address? Example: Transferring data to google.com/login...
Does this only affect logging into Google Accounts? Can you login into Gmail, Docs, Drive or any other Google product?
Lastly, I see you have just 2 addons: Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin. Which are good. Having just a few addons lowers the chance of having any conflicts. But maybe just to be sure, can you disable Privacy Badger for a test and try logging into Google Accounts again? Then if that fails, return to the Addons area, disable uBlock Origin and try logging into Google Accounts once more.
To disable addons, please look here: Disable or remove Add-ons
You can check the connection settings and check for possible issues with a Proxy or VPN service.
- Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings
If you do not need to use a Proxy to connect to internet, select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

Hi Guys,
Thank you so much for the suggestions I have tired the fixes you have suggested but to no avail. @NoahSUMO to answer you questions in order.
Q:after you enter your username and password then try to login? Does the page become blank and never change? Does something appear stuck in the lower left corner of the screen that looks like a web address?
A: Unfortunately I do even get far enough enough along to enter my user name and password, before it redirects back to the "clear cache page." There is nothing stuck in the lower left corner.
Q:Does this only affect logging into Google Accounts? Can you login into Gmail, Docs, Drive or any other Google product?
This is only happening with google products. I can not log into any google products regardless of how I try log on.
Hey folks,
I found this bug report which linked to more reports from people on Reddit. I'll escalate this to the team. Thanks for your patience!
Thank you for your report Cait and for responding to queries. If you are able to, I'd request some more info as we are unable to repro it with a fresh profile. 1. I'm assuming you are using Firefox release 131.0.2. Is that correct? 2. What is your configured ETP level in Firefox? You can check that in "Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Enhanced Tracking Protection". If it is set to "Custom", could you please check if setting to "Standard" fixes the problem?
Thank you for reporting this, team is working on a fix. For now, the issue can be resolved by clearing cookies for the Google domain.
- Visiting https://www.google.com
- Trigger Clear cookies and site data... using the dropdown panel of the lock icon
