I have an older version of Thunderbird on my old laptop which gives me the option of seeing the output of a Quick Filter which has hits in Folders. There are 2 areas in the output section, one for People and one for Folders. When I click on the particular folder which has hits from my search, it gives two options, Must be in this folder, or Must not be in this folder. Something like that, I don't have the laptop with me so I can't be exact.

My new laptop has Thunderbird installed and running, but when I do a Quick Filter I only get People in my output... no Folder section.

What do I need to do to be able to see filter output from Folders as well as from People?

You are talking about the faceted search that is in the full search (ctrL+K) and appears on the toolbar as Search.

You are referring to that as quick search which has no must be in type stuff and is managed from it's own dedicated toolbar and searches only the current folder (CtrL_Shift+K)

For completeness there is a find type search using (Ctrl+shift+F) that can create saved search folders for regular searches.

The faceted search lists heading based on the returned information. In this instance, I would guess all the returned emails are in the same folder, that is unless the list of people scrolls off the bottom of the page and you need to scroll the list of returned information to see the other headings.

For instance I did a search on "oops" It returned a list of People, Folders and Mailing lists on the first page and when I scroll down it shows Account and Tags headings further down.
