I been having problems with Firefox ever since I refreshed 65.0.1 losing 6 years of bookmarks, addons and passwords, after 7 hours and I managed to get old files back and had to redo addons and passwords. It became unreliable with copying/paste not working, slowness etc and when I found that it was not updating to latest 65.0.2 I scrapped it and downloaded latest. But cannot get old version of profile back. Instead I have no files showing up in local directory, though root directory is showing *see screenshot. So I have to restart everything from scratch with important passwords and bookmarks etc. It still will not show but closing down firefox it does save and keep customised setup and session etc. Is this normal to vanish on this version?

have mac MojaveOS 10.14.3

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

I have tried making new profiles and the same problem occurs I cannot see the file. Original backup bookmarks I kept on external HD, but being so frustrated with what is happening since my refresh and downloading a new firefox version, I accidentally dragged instead of copied and then threw it away with old version (next old data bookmarks goes back 2015 when I first tried refresh). I do not wish to restart from scratch, took awhile to redo the bare minimum of essential passwords and websites nor can I do a copy of my new one due to this ghost file that is still active (see screenshot).

Use the links I posted https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1253349#answer-1205717 to open the profiles folder. How many are listed?

Ive tried all those link, spent time making new profiles but nothing worked to get all my bookmarks back it just made me redo the bookmarks by hand, passwords and addons. I will not refresh again (spent a long time searching for the main websites and passwords I used to put back customise settings), it is the reason why I got into this mess when Old data would not be accepted despite working when I did it. Now it is no point doing accidentally deleted it due to frustrations.

I tried the hidden folder, brings back library but not the actual profile cache default folder. see screenshot It seems I just got to live with this, until something goes wrong.

In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder in the Home directory is a hidden folder.

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so make sure to look in the correct location. Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files (Local Directory on about:profiles).

  • ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/
