I have the address bar set to search as well. It works when i set the keyword:enabled flag to TRUE, however, it reverts to false after every new session. Ive tried creating a new profile, deleting json files, etc. The flag always reverts to false.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Hello beanpirate,

Probably a rhetorical question, but just to make sure :

After you changed the value of "keyword.enabled", did you then close and restart Firefox in order for the change to take effect  ?

Glad to help. Safe Surfing.
