Don't you just love these error messages? Someone coded it to deliver all those numbers so they know exactly how and where it went wrong. But try finding that person to explain it all...

If you post your troubleshooting information, maybe someone with a working Hotmail account will be able to advise on settings that work for them. But this doesn't really look like a settings issue, and might be a real problem at the server and hence nothing that you and I can fix.

Hmm, yes, the account settings don't tell us anything, They are the same for both accounts.

My own hotmail account looks like this:

…but it isn't working either, that is, for sending.

But both the address I am using and the address you have respond to pings.

To me the error message suggests that you are using the wrong sender/from-address to send mails using your hotmail account. Please verify your outgoing server settings (SMTP) and double check if your e-mail address is correct. I followed the instructions in the article you posted. Both of my email accounts show smtp.live.com as the outgoing server setting. I changed the server setting for my hotmail account to smtp-mail.outlook.com as the article suggested but that didn't help, I still can't send mail with my hotmail account. My msn email account sends mail fine with the smtp.live.com outgoing server setting.

I went back through the steps again and this time I DID notice a box that was filled in incorrectly, edited it and so far it seems to be working. I've sent a couple messages that worked. Thank you so Onno Ekker for sending me the support article I needed.

I am getting the same problem with two Hotmail accounts. I have checked the settings against the solution above and they are correct for the faulty account using imap-mail.outlook.com.
