I've lost all passwords, bookmarks. Maybe saved on external hdd. What to do??

File permissions fouled up. Transferred all files to an external hard drive, then factory reset Windows 7, gave the new administrator permissions on all laptop files and external hard drive files. Installed new Firefox browser, read tons of articles on firefox file transfer, implemented to no avail. Is there a file transfer wizard that I can use, or alternative solution?
