this is the link that is provided on Help page:

Warning: Firefox 3.6 will only be maintained with security and stability updates for a short period of time. Please update to the latest version of Firefox.

this is the page it takes me to, and I cannot locate information about how to update to later version other than "check for updates" on the options menu, which does not work (I am told that there are none and that Firefox will check periodically for updates)

The current plan is to start offering updates to Firefox 7 to current Firefox 3.6 users within this week. At the moment, 3.6 users just get minor 3.6.x updates. If you wish to install the latest version now, you can just download and install it from Mozilla.com.
