Yesterday, I ran an update that was available. This morning when opening the browser, it stated that I needed to retsart my computer to complete the upgrade. I rebootted five times (at least) and it will not start Firefox. I tried uninstalling and planned to reload (apparently losing all of my favorites) and I can't do that--receive same message. I'm using IE today :(

Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator). If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.

Download a fresh copy of Firefox ( http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html ) and do a reinstall of Firefox on top of the current version. You won't lose your personal data like bookmarks doing that (Firefox Profile Folder).

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
You may need to remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:

Vista/Windows7:

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)
