Firefox does not close

Firefox does not close: I click the "X" in the top right corner of the window, and firefox does not respond. the rest of the window is still functional (i can still use the site), but firefox will not close. I click the "X" again, and nothing - it will just blink bright orange to pale orange. I click on the pull down menus and they do not show the info

This happened

Every time Firefox opened

Does this happen on any page? If you go to about:blank does the same thing occur? If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? For instructions on starting in Safe Mode, see Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox.
