Why so many websites don't work under Mozilla ?
Since many years now, there are more and more Websites which don't work properly under Mozilla. Each time I write to the Webmaster, I receive this answer. We have not optimized your website for Mozilla Firefox, whose technology is outdated.
Many websites don't display interactive maps in Mozilla.
I understand that Mozilla has a very good system for protecting personal data and prevents sites from tracking users. I also understand that Mozilla allows for efficient cookie deletion, which commercial companies probably don't appreciate. Is this the only reason why so many companies don't want to optimize their websites for Mozilla?

Generally, it's easier to support only one most-used browser engine (Chromium, which powers Chrome, Edge, Opera and others) and not care about other engines (such as Gecko powering Firefox or Blink powering Safari). And, unfortunately, some companies just choose that path. Sometimes, the issue is that some API is not supported in a particular engine, but that's the minority of cases.
Anyway, Mozilla founded a project called WebCompat that aims to solve this. It collects info about web compatibility issues (when websites work in some browsers and don't work in others), tracks these issues and attempts to fix them. In Firefox, you can report a website from the menu > Report Broken Website... but there are also some steps you can try first:
- Please check if you have Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) enabled. You can do that by clicking the shield
icon in the left part of the address bar.
- If ETP is enabled, try disabling it.
- If the problem is not fixed, try clearing Firefox cache.
- If it does not help, try clearing cookies and data for the website you experience troubles with (warning: you will be logged out on this website).
- If it also does not help, try running Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode. If the problem doesn't persist, please follow the steps from this article to troubleshoot further.
- If nothing from the above helps, try creating a new Firefox profile and check if the issue persists there. If it doesn't, you can start copying files from your old profile to the new one to identify which one causes the issue. See this article on what files to copy.
