Incessant Crashes

more options

Firefox repeatedly crashes on my, multiple times a day. I'dc really like to NOT have to change my default browser to Chrome.

What happens is that Firefox freezes, and I get a white bar at the top telling me so. I get a popup box asking if I want to close Firefox or wait for it to respond. Waiting doesn't work, so I always have to close Firefox. When I reopen it, fortunately all m,y open tabs are retained, but it crashes again within minutes or seconds as soon as I click on anything.

There only thing that seems to work is a reboot of my PC. But the respite is short before Firefox crashes again.

I've disabled most plugins, but that hasn't helped. Is there a way to create an event log within Firefox that I can share with someone at Mozilla to help e debug the issue? It's got to be something local rather than Firefox itself; I can't imagine this is happening to most users.

It's been more than two weeks without a crash, but it resumed the problem today. I'm at a loss to think of what could be responsible for this. Are there any known conflicts with other apps or with any Firefox extensions?

Normally only antivirus or privacy/cleaning programs would be poking around in browser data folders.

Firefox does have two background tasks that you could disable and see whether that makes any difference. These are in the Windows Task Scheduler. For steps to disable them, take a look at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1526281#answer-1753147

Thanks. I've disabled them and am now waiting to see if the problem recurs.

I've read the latest (read: last) comment and I believe it is true and that we are all abiding by that final comment.

Sadly this crash continues to occur every couple of days.

Is there formal support I can get from Mozilla itself?

more options

Hi Bill, are the newer crashes also linked to shutdown hangs? If Firefox is not set to clear cookies or history when it closes, it's difficult to think of any reason that it wouldn't be able to shut down, unless it has become unresponsive for other reasons.

Hi, jscher — yes, the current crashes are the same as I reported in the original post. It's quite frustrating.

Is there any way to get formal support from Mozilla?

more options

Hi Bill, the other channel is to submit a bug, share links to your crash reports, and ask the developers what data they need to diagnose the problem. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/
