downloaded ppt(x) files are broken

i can't remember since when, but it's some time now, that if i download a ppt(x) file it's always, always broken.

1- it's broken beyond repair 2- the files are ok if i download using a third party app, like fdm 3- it's only ppt(x) files 4- no alerts or reports from my antivirus 5- i use ff 72.0.2

...also the weird thing is:

6- the file "size" is the same but the "size on disk" is different between when ff downloads and when other applications download the same file. this is a recent attempt: size=8563200 bytes in both cases, but on disk=8563200 by firefox and disk=8564736 by other apps
