Why are My messages disappearing from my sub folders

I make sub folders to transfer my emails to so that I can refer to them if I need to, unfortunately I have found over a a period of time that they are disappearing. I have now been saving them on my operators Web browser mail as I can no longer trust them on Thunderbird. Could someone tell me what is happening . thank you
