Everything was working fine with FF 16. I updated to 16.0.1 a few hours ago and now when I open a new tab, I get a blank page instead of the thumbnails. I already checked about:config and everything looks normal:

browser.newtab.url;about:newtab browser.newtabpage.enabled;true

Here's a picture of the rest: http://i.imgur.com/K5nur.png

How can I get the thumbnails back? Thanks in advance.

Do you still see the 9 slots on the about:newtab page?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Thank you for your reply. Last night I turned off my computer before I saw your suggestion. This morning after I turned it on and launched FF, the thumbnails are back and working. Last night, opening a new tab would not even show the slots, just a blank page.

After further tests this morning, however, I'm noticing that in Private Browsing, the problem persists. Opening a new tab in Private Browsing gives me the private browsing notice "Private Browsing. Firefox won't remember any history for this session... " etc., with the purple mask. Before, while in Private Browsing, I would see the thumbnails slots with my selected webpages pined to them (no actual thumbnails, tho).

Any way to change this? Thanks again.

That should be fixed.

Thanks again for replying. My problem is not exactly with thumbnails. Before the 16.0.1 update, if I opened up a new tab under Private Browsing, I would see the thumbnail slots or grid, but not the thumbnails themselves. I figured it had to do with privacy, so it was no big deal because the slots would still maintain the links. So the slots would be there and working, but no thumbnails.

My problem now, after the 16.0.1 update, is that while Private Browsing, I don't even see the slots. Instead, I just see the Private Browsing warning. each time I open a new tab.

This really is not a big issue. As long as I see the grid while in normal browsing, I'm happy. Maybe they'll fix this issue in the next release. I can live with it until then.

Thanks anyway for your input. It's appreciated.
