Dear,

I bought a new laptop and I'm merging all my programs and data from the old to the new one. For Firefox, containing a big amount of tabs I use every day, passwords etc... I thought the Sync option might be a good way not to have to start over all again on Firefox on my new laptop, however it doesn't seem to work for some reason.

I already tried deleting my account creating a new one using a different email address, I researched the internet about this problem but didn't find a working solution. I also checked the status of your servers but that didn't show any defects...

Your help in fixing this issue zould greatly help my everyday life ;-)

Thanks

Best regards

Philip

Please send us a screenshot of the error messages and every screenshot you would consider useful for us to solve your issue by following the guide mentioned at How do I create a screenshot of my problem?.

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. You really help us to visualize the problem.

Also you might try to reset Firefox. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Hi marcsances,

Thanks for your reply and detailed information!

I made some screen shots in png format +-210Kb each but it seems it doesn't want to upload when I browse it and select it, it keeps stuck in the upload logo.

Meanwhile it seems the sync partially worked as I have now my saved passwords, site history, autofill history etc... on my new laptop but the Firefox preferences or tabs & tab groups didn't sync yet.

I looked at the reset option but as you can probably imagine I would really not want to loose all my data :-)

I did try to delete my account and log in sync again making a new account with a different email address as said in my first post but that didn't help.

Another info, I am on a mobile Verizon 3G network all the time, it isn't as fast as my broadband at home but so far it didn't block or stop me from up or downloading files, syncing offline files through network etc... so I don't expect the problem to be the somewhat slow connection?

Thanks,

Cheers

Phil

It seems some firewall or extension is preventing Firefox from connecting with Sync servers.

What is a firewall? A firewall is an application designed for preventing programs from connecting or receiving data in certain modes. Windows has one enabled by default, and may block some untrusted connections, such as Sync ones, that may work on a port different than 80 which Firefox uses usually.

How do I disable it? If you have a Internet Security solution or regular firewall, refer to its instructions to disable it. If you have Windows Firewall, go to Start / Control panel / Security Center and disable it by clicking on Windows Firewall.

If this doesn't work, what do I do?
