Firefox restricts me from renaming or moving folders that contain files I downloaded with it

No matter what I do, it just eventually happens EVERYTIME. The worst part is that I can't predict when it will happen next time.

For some reason, when I download a file with Firefox (Firefox is currently set to always download files right to my Desktop), and then move it from my Desktop (which is obviously located in C: drive) to my external drive, place it in some folder and after that try to move that folder in the other place, or rename it - I just can't because that folder, or files within it are currently being used by some other program (I'm sorry, what?).

But! The solution is very simple: if I close Firefox and try again - ta-da! The folder is no longer used by anything, and I can do what I wanted to do with success.

This is very, VEEERY annoying! Additionally, I'll add a screenshot showing all of extensions installed in my browser, as well as troubleshoot info (if that might help). Anyone, please, help me fix that!

Sorry, but that's just the way Firefox works with downloaded files. About the only "fix" is to clear your Downloads history before trying to move any downloads. That is what I have been doing since like Firefox 1.0 in 2004, or perhaps even before that. Aug, 2002 with Phoenix 0.3 is when I started using what later was re-named to Firefox.

Perhaps having that external drive plugged in before Firefox is launched, and then downloading files directly to the external drive would be more to your liking. But be aware Firefox won't even see an external drive that is connected after Firefox is running, it looks for external drives (all hardware) as part of the launch of Firefox procedure. Upon a restart of Firefox it will be seen, as you found out.

I haven't done that for many years so I can't verify that it works the same way now. But give that a shot and let me know if that still works. An NAS did similar with me, before ending my used of that NAS for other reasons, such as hardly ever using it for what I originally built it for; holding files for a a 3 PC home network and the occasional laptop to grab saved programs to install on a laptop. A USB Flash Stick worked faster for that. NAS had a terminal for working thru the NAS for local files access.
