how do i download files directly to my desktop, not a folder on my desktop
up until last week i was able to download files directly to my desktop. for some reason, now I have to download them to a folder on my desktop. I know it's just a minor issue, but it's bugging me. i don't want that extra folder there or have to move things out of it and into whatever place it's supposed to be. I've tried repeatedly to change the destination but no matter where I go, it the download manager wants to make a new folder to put downloaded items in. What's occurring here? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

Change your Download folder destination to desktop.
Firefox Menu > Tools > Options > General > Downloads
Save files to >"Choose Desktop "
otherwise choose " Always ask me where to save the file "
Current Firefox versions remember the download directory based upon the URL, so if the URL changes then the default folder may be chosen if there hasn't been selected a download folder before for that server.
You can disable this feature to remember the download directory via the Boolean pref browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite on the about:config page.
The browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite pref doesn't exist by default (it is a hidden pref), so you need to create it.
Create a new Boolean pref with the name browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite and set the value to false.
thanks, but it's still asking me for a folder. It won't let me save it directly to the desktop.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
