Had to build a new pc for windows 10. Installed an m.2 HD as primary to load 10 on. Figured I would migrate everything from 7 because they don't support USB ports with the new hardware (long story). Anyway, went to copy the "favorites" over to the new hard-drive and they are dated from 2016? They aren't anywhere near what I currently had. So what happened to my 2019 favorites??? Any help would be immensely appreciated. I really need some of those links and obviously can't remember them all. Especially when some of them are VA/surgical related.

Okay, moving the file did the trick. REALLY appreciate the help. I've been working the last two days to get this system back up and running. Funny how many hours I've put in just reading online trying to solve these issues with lack of support, etc. for the tech. Then this happens, so it's been a bit frustrating. Not to mention frustrating for a couple technicians from ASUS and Microsoft when they realized they were talking to a mechanical engineer instead of somebody who knows little about how a pc works lol Again, thank you and I definitely won't forget that file name just in case lol.

Do you still have access to your old computer? If you do, it's probably easiest to export the old bookmarks as an HTML file and then import them on your new computer.

If you still have access to the files on the old computer, even if you can't get into Windows on it, you could still backup your Firefox profile from the old files and then transfer those to your new computer.

Hope this helps.

My old computer was stripped. Rebuilt with all new hardware. The only thing I saved was the ssd drive that had win7 on it so that I could gradually move all the software, etc. over to the new "C" drive. Unfortunately I couldn't upgrade to win 10 because my hardware was too old. So I upgraded the hardware and found out it was so new that Win7 didn't support it...well at least the usb ports (so no mouse/keyboard). So the ONLY workaround I had was to install the m.2 drive and use that to install win10. Using the old ssd as a backup with the original OS on it. I thought it would be easy enough to copy the bookmarks over, but when I did, noticed that they weren't what I had. They were an outdated (2016) version. So what happened to the 2019 bookmarks? Did it never back them up? But even then, where was it reading them all from 2 days ago? They were definitely not that outdated when I last used them.

Everything on the original functioning OS is still on the SSD. I haven't touched anything other than to go into users and copy the favorites file. Which is why I'm confused. Shouldn't that actually be an updated/current file that I was using just a few days ago? I thought it would be easy enough to import them into explorer, then export them as an html file to import into firefox. Simple workaround to turn them into an html easy enough. So is there another file that I'm not seeing? Where would the actual CURRENT file be stored?

So you still have your old drive with the old OS files?

That's perfect if you do. Firefox saves all of that information in a file called places.sqlite located in your Firefox profile folder.

Assuming you still have the old data on your drive. That file should be located in the following folder on your old drive:

X:\Users\<your Windows login username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

In that Profiles folder, you will see your Firefox profile folders. The file you are looking for is specifically the places.sqlite file if you are looking for just the bookmarks. However, theoretically, you should be able to copy the entire folder into the same location on your new drive if you want to make a complete copy of what you had before.

I assume you pulled a backup bookmark file from your Firefox profile previously, but that's not necessarily the most current copy (depending on when Firefox backed up the information). The places.sqlite file is where all of the bookmark data is read live by Firefox, so it should have all the bookmarks up until the last time you used Firefox on your old computer.

Well, got my hopes up that's for sure lol It wasn't there. D:\Users\{login username}\ and that's it. There's files in there, but no AppData and past that. I'll do a search for the places.sqlite file and see if it's on here. But it should all be original. I haven't touched anything from the original drive.

I'm an idiot...I forgot it would likely be a hidden file....
