WTF Firefox just disabled critical extensions I use for work

Firefox just lost my support.

Sometime in the past 24 hours a Firefox update was (surreptitiously) installed that has now disabled five extensions I regularly use (some for work) saying they're now "legacy" and allowing only to "Remove" or "Find Replacement."

Clicking "Find Replacement" just takes me to the generic Mozilla add-on search (ie square one). Searching for my "Instapaper" plugin finds the plugin but clicking download gives an error. Same thing with "Privacy Badger" and the "Web Developer" app I use on a daily basis for work, plus an ePub clipping app.

Until today Firefox was my primary browser. But stunts like this that pull-the-rug out from under users is really, really not right. You shouldn't disable multiple extensions that so many depend on without warning. If extension devs need to update the platform they're using, focus on forcing them to upgrade, not on suddenly disabling multiple add-ons.

hello gigama, as you can read elsewhere, the deactivation of extensions was an unfortunate unforeseen bug (caused by the expiration of a certificate used in the process of verifying an addon's signature) - more details at: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2019/05/04/update-regarding-add-ons-in-firefox/

mozilla already released a fix for this issue a couple of days ago, so please make sure that you're on firefox 66.0.5 and fully up to date...
