OK, sounds odd but recovery key to what? And how did you request the key?

If you are referring to a Recovery Key for Sync, that hasn't been used since Firefox 29 came out. The olde Sync server that used the Recovery Key was disabled years ago.

If you are talking about the more recent version of Sync that uses a Firefox Account, try logging in here: https://accounts.firefox.com/signin
