YouTube loading slowly and videos not playing at all if not directly clicked on YouTube

more options

Hi,

I got an issue with Firefox on Linux. I have a link to the page where all the videos of my subscribed channels are shown in my bookmarks. This is the way i usually open YouTube. When I click on that link, YouTube is loading the page very slowly. When I click on any video there, the video is working. But if I click on any links to any videos on YouTube (e.g. on Google Search) or if I just open a video from my subscriber box not by clicking it directly but by clicking with the mouse wheel and therefore opening it in a new tab, the video won't work. The videobox is at first off-placed to the right and loading, then the video starts for about one second or so and then the playback terminates and it says "An error occured, try again later".

This happens everytime, since I first installed Firefox and after numerous reinstalls. I looked up everything i could find on that issue but nothing could help. There was the thing with the hardware acceleration, disabled it, nothing changed.

I really don't know, what I should do. I really want to use Firefox, mainly because I never really did and wanted to give it a try now on Linux (since my beloved Maxthon is not really available there) and secondly because all the Blink stuff feels oddly laggy.

If someone knows how to get rid of this issue then please tell me!

Thanks in advance.

Hi, since it is HTML 5 issue looks like drivers : adapterDeviceID: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 driverVersion: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 396.45

bad = blocked, u'unavailable'

featureLog: {u'fallbacks': [], u'features': [{u'status': u'blocked', u'description': u'Compositing', u'log': [{u'status': u'blocked', u'message': u'Acceleration blocked by platform', u'type': u'default'}], u'name': u'HW_COMPOSITING'}, {u'status': u'unavailable', u'description': u'OpenGL Compositing', u'log': [{u'status': u'unavailable', u'message': u'Hardware compositing is disabled', u'Off Main Thread Painting', u'log': [{u'status': u'disabled', u'message': u'Disabled by default',

So if can some how work on getting OpenGL working and some of the other issues fixed should be ok.

uBlock Origin can be a issue also. But Safe Mode will clear that up, also Hardware Acceleration is disabled for Video Card in Safe Mode so test : SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST''''is issue still there ?

Hi,

I started Firefox in Safe Mode. YouTube is now taking even longer to load and the video playback yet yields "an error occured". So the issue is still there when using Safe Mode.

I also uninstalled the nvidia driver and used nouveau which didn't resolve the problem with YouTube but eliminated the lag and tearing on the Blink browsers.^^

During your numerous uninstall did you delete the Mozilla folder before reinstalling?

Recently, several users have reported that YouTube generally works more poorly in Firefox since YouTube introduced the "Polymer" design. You could try reverting Firefox to the old design using the following URL or an add-on:

Any difference?

No, but I did now and doing so I found out that the problem disappears when I am not logged in to my Google/YouTube account.

I then tried out the polymer-disabling addon and it resolved the problem. YouTube now works fine even if I am logged in.

Is this a vicious attack from Google to push users off Firefox to Chrome or how should I understand this?

It's not just Firefox, Microsoft Edge has a similar (bad) experience. https://www.google.com/search?q=firefox+edge+youtube
