profile, bookmarks, history, tabs, add-ons, saved logins, extensions are gone after firefox update on 2017/08/05
Turned on computer this morning and opened firefox the first thing as I usually do. There was an update today and it failed to install so firefox asked me to send a crash report and restart which also failed -this happened 4 times before it asked me to refresh. I did not know that refresh implied it would wipe everything (the only choices were to start and to refresh and starting would go nowhere as what was previously shown). Firefox also failed refreshing, it froze for about 10 min as it was close to finishing. So after killing the process and starting again I noticed that it did not save my previously opnened tabs and that they were not in the history. So as I usually du during this occurrence, I restored the system to a save point (2017/08/05 2:00AM, Windows). My previously opened tabs were back but then I noticed I had no extensions or addons, so I signed in to sync hoping that would restore the addons/extensions but it did not. And now I just discovered that I don't have the saved login information anymore either.
Any Suggestions as to how I can retrieve my browsers previous working state?

(first you might want to make another backup of that folder) find the files logins.json + key3.db in the folder and copy it to your current profile folder while firefox is closed. Recovering important data from an old profile
i think you should hold off restoring all your extensions - if you were using cookie controller before, it's probably its update that caused your startup crashes in the first place...

do you have a folder on your desktop labelled "old firefox data"?
Indeed I do!
How do I go about using the contents of this folder?

Thank you, phillipp. I have restored most of what I care about and have not noticed anything missing yet.
